PIM Institute of Education
Physician Training & Observerships
The Institute of Education facilitates a number of training and observership programs for physicians. These include:
- International medical conferences, including lecturing
- Short- or long-term fellowships and observerships tailored to the international community
- Graduate medical education (GME) equivalent programs
- Continuing medical education seminars and conferences at internationally recognized university medical schools
All programs are designed specifically to meet the needs of international audiences, and with the goal of not only
enhancing the knowledge base, but offering the valuable opportunity to develop skills under the guidance of experts
in various medical topic areas.
Visiting Observerships
The Institute’s physician exchange programs enable physicians to visit the United States, and Philadelphia physicians
to visit healthcare facilities abroad. Visiting physicians from abroad participate in short- and long-term observerships
that allow study and mentoring in a wide variety of medical specialties and subspecialties.
Physicians participate in day-to-day patient management, grand rounds, one-on-one physician discussion, co-authoring of
publications at the host facility, touring of all PIM affiliated facilities, access to a wide variety of medical education
programs, and special introductions to leading physicians in their field of study.
Philadelphia visiting physicians with specific clinical and teaching expertise are available to visit healthcare
facilities abroad to help with the development of new medical services or the support of existing healthcare programs.
Philadelphia visiting physicians participate in clinical activities, conduct educational lectures and mini-symposiums,
and provide program evaluation and observations.
