Second Opinion Program

Philadelphia International Medicine (PIM)’s second opinion program offers physicians and institutions outside the United States the ability to seek second opinions from physicians or surgeons in the PIM network of hospitals. PIM provides two types of second opinions: basic and complex. PIM’s Director of Patient Care Services determines second opinion complexity level after an initial evaluation of the medical records provided.

Basic and complex second opinions include a listing of treatment options, and are not intended to be used as diagnostic or treatment tools. PIM responds to each second opinion request in a timely manner; however, requests for additional information may require more time.

If the referring physician or institution chooses to request a second opinion, all medical reports should be sent directly to PIM. PIM will refer the case to a specialist and return the completed second opinion as soon as possible. After the case is reviewed, PIM will schedule a time for the conference that is suitable to the requesting physician or institution.

Please note that laboratory reports or extensive radiology may require an extra charge. Additionally, all medical records provided for review must be in English.

While patients can ask their physicians to request a second opinion through PIM, only a licensed physician or institution may actually request and receive the second opinion.
